Taste of River/Buy River: The Ultimate Summer Get-Together

Rocky River Mayor, Pamela Bobst, samples Pearl of the Orient's fare in 2015.

Featuring over 20-plus restaurants and vendors, Taste of River/Buy River will be the place to be on Saturday, July 9 from noon to 3:00 p.m. New to the event this year is Zoop!, Moe’s Southwest Grill, and Whole Foods Market.

The 12th Annual Taste of River/Buy River, in the Don Umerley Civic Center, will provide a delicious and entertaining respite from the summer heat. The concept is simple: a bunch of local restaurants prepare small dishes, ranging in price from $1 to $4 and sell them at their tables. The food variety is always impressive - from burgers to sushi. There is truly something for everyone in your family.

Here's just a sampling of the restaurants and businesses participating this year:

  • Giant Eagle
  • Bearden's
  • Buffalo Wild Wings
  • Cravings Café
  • Enso Rolls & Bowls
  • Life's Healthy Essentials
  • One World Shop
  • Salmon Dave's Pacific Grille
  • Style Loop
  • Tartine Bistro
  • Wine & Design

"We’re excited to participate in Taste of River,” said Lisa Sweeney, Marketing Team Leader Whole Foods Market – Rocky River. “We will offer a variety of delicious salads and our special Rocky River cupcakes.”

Lowe’s and Home Depot will each be giving away a grill, plus Massage Heights will be giving free chair massages.

If you have never been to Taste of River/Buy River plan to come hungry, mingle with your neighbors and see lots of friendly faces. Also, be sure to stop by the Pearl of the Orient table and say hello to George Hwang, who will be serving egg rolls and more.

In 2015 the event attracted more than 850 people in just three hours! As part of the city's River Days, admission into Taste of River/Buy River is free. Food tickets at $1 each can be purchased at the door. The number of tickets charged per food sample varies. Tickets will be available at 11:30 a.m.

Christian Barnes, chef and owner River Dog Café, is returning to challenge this year. “It’s been an honor to win Best of Taste of River for the past two years,” said Barnes. “River is a place to go for good local food. If you like food, you should come.”

Lastly, we couldn’t host this event without the support of our generous sponsors, Giant Eagle and EmbroidMe North Olmsted. Giant Eagle will be serving colorfully decorated cookies and cupcakes from their bakery for one ticket each.
