Haan Places Third in Business Competition

Lutheran West Junior Sadie Haan was a member of a student team that won third place at the recent Tiffin University Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition. The team won a $250 scholarship. Haan was a member of a team made up of two Tiffin University students and a high school student from the Tiffin area. Haan lives in Rocky River.

The teams met for three Boot Camp sessions on the Tiffin University campus during the fall to work on the plan and listen to presentations by businesses owners and other entrepreneurship experts. The high school students earned three hours of college credit for attending the Boot Camp sessions and completing an online requirement for the class. This was the third year for the Boot Camp competition, which is held as part of the entrepreneurship class at Tiffin University.

The judges in the competition play the role of potential investors in the students’ businesses. “This is a great opportunity for students to practice the skills they are learning in class in a real world scenario”, according to Dr. Perry Haan, who teaches the Tiffin University part of the class. “I am impressed with how the university and high school students work together in and outside of the classroom.”

Tiffin University enrolls about 5,000 students in undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered at the campus in Tiffin, online, in several foreign countries, and at several locations in Ohio.
