Upcoming Programs & Events at Rocky River Public Library

February 4 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.   Volunteer Youth Crew for students in grades 4-6 meets. Make a difference at your library by volunteering to work in the Children’s Department. Projects include shelving books or DVDs, examining the condition of a group of books, and working together on a community service project. Registration required and snacks provided.

February 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.   Teens are invited to indulge at our Death by Chocolate Party. Grades 7 and up. 

February 9 at 6:30 p.m.   Join us for “Love is Strange,” a 2014 French-American drama, as we continue our Indie International Film Fest, featuring selections from the world’s top film festivals. Enjoy fresh, hot popcorn while celebrating the world of cinema. Please note these films have not been rated and should be assumed to have   mature content.

February 9 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.   Make some Crafty Creations: Edible Valentines. We will be celebrating this Valentine’s Day by creating delicious candy gifts. For students in grades 4-6. Registration required.

February 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.   Fun, friends, food, and books - all come together when the River Readers Book Club meets. For students in grades 4-6.  Join us once a month as we explore a variety of genres sure to catch readers’ imaginations. Registration required.

February 11 at 3:30 p.m.   Teen Pizza Pagers meet for pizza and a book discussion group. Stop by the Reference Desk to register and pick up a copy of the current book. Grade 7 and 8.

February 16 at 3:30 p.m.   It's Movie Monday for students in grades 3-6. Drop in for a hit movie after school and enjoy free popcorn and drinks.  We’ll feature newly released DVDs, along with everyone’s favorite classics. 

February 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.   Don’t miss the next Computer Breakfast Series as we explore New Technology.  Holly Klinger returns to give us a look at her findings at the Consumer Electronic Show, the biggest in the tech industry. She will show us some of the new tech gadgets that have been announced, as well as some newer tech toys that are currently on the market. Coffee provided.

February 18 from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.   The High School Book Club meets. High school readers, this book club is just for you! Join us for snacks and lively conversations. Stop by the Reference Desk to register and pick up a copy of the current book. Grades 9 and up.  

February 18 at 6:30 p.m.   Get ready to discuss “The Hundred-Year House”  by Rebecca Makkai at Books Inspire the Artist Within. Craft materials will be provided for the creation of your very own artist trading cards! No previous art experience required; all are welcome to discuss the book. 

February 19 at 7:00 p.m.   Our TUNE IN THURSDAY series continues with “Sing for Freedom”. Celebrate Black History Month through the music of the Civil Rights Movement with vocalist Nancy Bernstein and pianist Drene Ivy. They will perform traditional favorites like “This Little Light of Mine”. Highlights of the Movement will be discussed. 

February 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.   SAT Prep Class takes place in the community room. Brush up on your SAT test-taking skills with Princeton Review.®   SAT Practice Test takes place on Saturday, February 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Registration required for each event.

February 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Be a part of the Guild of the Brick for ages 5 and older. Are you crazy about Legos®?  Then drop in for “Guild of the Brick.” We  provide the Legos®, you bring the imagination.  

February 24 from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.  Play Dungeons & Dragons.  Join us for this classic fantasy role-   playing game with other teens. Learn how to create a character and embark on fantastic adventures. There is plenty of room for extra Dungeon Masters, too! Grades 7 and up. Registration required.

February 25 from 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.   Drop in for Get in the Game! for students in grades 3-6. Meet at the library to hang out with your friends, play games and munch on snacks. Different games are featured each month, including Wii Just Dance, PlayStation Rock Band, party games and board games.  

February 25 from 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.    GET ‘REEL’ FILM AND BOOK DISCUSSION of "Jane Eyre". Has Valentine’s Day got you in the mood for a little romance? Read Charlotte Bronte’s 1847 novel and then come to enjoy this 2011 film adaptation starring Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska. After the movie, attendees are encouraged to stay and take part in a short, open discussion comparing the film to the book.

February 26 at 7:00 p.m.   An Introduction to Online Genealogy Research will help you get started by answering questions such as Where do I begin? and What will work for me? This class will offer an introduction to the library's subscription services to Ancestry Library Edition and HeritageQuest and useful web sites available on the Internet for genealogical research.

February 27 at 12:00 p.m.   Come over for a Lunchtime Movie.  Join us to watch a film selected from our popular new releases. Check the calendar or contact us, and we’ll let you know what hot new movie we’re going to show! Popcorn and drinks provided.
