Which was more glamorous—to ride the elevator with an operator or the escalator? Remember downtown shopping at Halle Brothers, The May Co., Higbee’s and the Sterling Linder Christmas tree? From your purchases delivered next day by trucks and dining in the tea rooms, shopping downtown was a dressy affair!
